Immediately after class tonight, I received an email from a site that my wife discovered - www.HumbleBundle.com - which offers really low-cost deals on books, software, and occasionally other stuff. Today's deal (expires in two weeks) is a bundle of astronomy books. This is a "pay what you want" type of thing, but for $15 you get 13 books (electronic books, either PDFs or EPUB format), which is a great deal. These are recent books, and I personally would mark only 2 of them as "duds" - meaning they are titles I have absolutely no interest in reading. The topics in this bundle consist of 3 books on current topics (planets around other stars, moons in our solar system), 3 on observational astronomy, one on technology, and no less than 4 on aspects of the history of astronomy. For me this purchase was an immediate no-brainer. If you can handle reading electronic books, this collection looks perfect for my students who are interested in going deeper into astronomy.
